Chapter 9.   The Making of "Fahrfrumpoisen"

Back to Part Two Outline

Any kind of car can be designed to be slow and boring, but what will surprise many people (thanks to media self-censorship) is how quick, agile and enjoyable electric cars can be.  Some of the EVs built and raced by members of the National Electric Drag Racing Association (http://www.nedra.com) are competitive with the best gasoline-powered production cars available at any price.  Did Detroit honestly believe that EVs using existing and affordable technologies would "poison market acceptance" of electric cars?  Of course not.  Why doesn't Detroit have the courage to demonstrate, with the kind of cars that you and I can build in our own backyards and garages, the "killer app" of electric cars:  extraordinary, Corvette-beating acceleration? . . . . (chapter has 16 pages and 10 figures).
