Chapter 12.   Which "Deathtraps"?

Back to Part Two Outline

Detroit's narrow, "laws of physics" criticism of compact cars, dishonestly ignores several real world mitigating considerations and counterarguments.  Certain small cars perform better in crash tests than do other, much larger vehicles.  And small cars are typically more adept at avoiding accidents, especially the most common category of fatal crash -- single vehicle accidents.  Accident statistics and objective analysis verify the truth that Detroit has concealed:  that sport utility vehicles have taken more lives than they have saved and that small cars are safer than they have been portrayed. . . (chapter has 14 pages and 6 figures).
